Lexden Rackets and Fitness Club hosted the annual Essex Closed event on 25-26th Jan, where Lexden’s Michael Tallentire made the most of the home advantage and won the A Grade, beating Gareth Naidoo from Woodford Wells. Lexden’s Lara Newton was back from Uni and won this years women’s draw against Hannah Lain.
It was a busy weekend of squash, with players of all ages and abilities coming from across Essex to Colchester to compete in the main draws as well as age categories. There were also wins and placings for other Lexden players including Steve Smith (O55), Max Newton (B Plate), Carley Barton (Womens Plate) and Simon Rippingdale (O70).
This years Essex Closed was kindly sponsored by Millane Contract Services (https://millane.ltd.uk/), who are keen to support grass roots sports.
The next squash event at Lexden Rackets and Fitness is the English Closed on 6-9th March, with players from across the UL travelling to Colchester to compete that weekend. There is also an open graded tournament being held on Saturday 8th March, before the English Closed semi-finals and is kindly sponsored by Colchester IT.
Both events are free to watch and there is viewing areas outside the courts and in the bar.
